Earlier today I wrote about a possible goal of the year candidate by Alex Ovechkin, and now we have ourselves a fight of the year candidate. You know what, this fight is so good I'm just going to go ahead and call it the fight of the year right now. Just because I don't want any of the guys involved in the fight to get angry at me for not calling it fight of the year and then coming after me. Always have to look out for number one.
The donnybrook in question took place back on December 19th between Jeremy Yablonski of the Binghamton Senators, and Dan "Nasty" Mirasty of the Syracuse Crunch. What a cool nickname, Nasty. Much better than mine, "The Cookie Monster." What can I say, I do like to eat cookies.
These two warriors put on one great fight, dropping the mits at centre ice and furiously re-arranging each other's face for a solid minute.
"Nasty" Mirasty wins in the nickname department, and I think you have to give him props for showing some courage too. I don't know if Mirasty knew what he was getting himself into, as while digging around and doing some research, I found this video of Yablonski fighting for an MMA promotion named XFS. Which I'm going to assume stands for Xtreme Fighting Something-or-other.
The next time you consider who some of the toughest guys in the hockey world are, Dan "Nasty" Mirasty should immediately take the crown because he didn't just fight another hockey goon. He fought a hockey goon who doubles as an MMA fighter. I'd like to see Derek Boogaard do that. Seriously I would. Can somebody set up a Derek Boogaard vs. Chuck Liddell fight? I would definitely accept free tickets to see that.
