This Day In Hockey History - January 12th Edition

January 12th...

1918 - Montreal's Joe Malone scored five times (to become the first 20 goal scorer in NHL history) as the Canadiens won 9-4 over Ottawa. Malone also extended his goal scoring streak (from the start of the NHL) to 7 straight games.

1987 - Charlie Simmer registered the 13,000th goal in Boston Bruins' history in a 4-1 win over New York Rangers. The milestone goal was scored over 62 years after Bruins' Fred Harris posted the clubs first goal on Dec. 1, 1924.

1990 - Penguins' Paul Coffey scored his 270th NHL goal, to tie Bobby Orr for second place all time in goals by defenseman. It came in 6-4 Penguins' win against the Capitals at Washington.

1994 - Wayne Gretzky scored to became the first 2,400 career point scorer in NHL history, then added another goal plus two assists, & Luc Robitaille scored two goals and two assists to lead the Kings to a 6-4 win over the Hartford Whalers at the Forum.
